His State Medal caps a career in which Dupont set the school record for career wins, with 146, and single season wins, with 42. He was also a 2-time State Qualifier, a 2-time Region Medal Winner, a 2-time District Champion, and 3-time District Placer.

The Hornets come off a big 2017 season that saw them set a school record for single season wins. They pushed five wrestlers into the Regions, and they had multiple District Champs, as well as a State qualifier, for the first time since 1984. They lost a few key starters to graduation, but have a strong group returning, and also have a very healthy number of underclassmen coming in as they start to reap the benefits of the feeder program.
The big name returning for Holmdel is senior Scott Dupont, the team's State qualifier from a season ago. He enters the season with 104 career victories, putting him 18 wins away from breaking the school record. He was two wins away from a medal in AC last year, and has his eyes on the podium this time around. He's joined in the middle by junior Dean Gallo, a returning District champion who has 57 wins through his first two seasons.
Down low, Nicholas Ammirati returns after a solid rookie campaign that saw him record 24 wins. He'll be the anchor in the lower portion of the lineup that will feature some of the Hornets new frosh, including the promising Anthony Peloro and Matteo Pinnero. Thomas Ammirati, Nicholas' twin, checks in at 132, and is also coming off a solid debut year where he posted 26 wins. Keep an eye on Zack Wolf, who could be poised for a breakout senior year back down at 138.
Over the last several years, Holmdel has normally had strong numbers in the lower and middle weights, but have been a bit thin in the uppers. That should change this year as they have a good number of bodies in the room in those weights this year. There's some young guys in there without any varsity experience, but they're working hard in the room and can look to returning starters Johnny O'Beirne, a 21-match winner in 2017, and heavyweight Victor Kizenko for senior leadership. Also returning in this group is junior Alex Starr, who has put in the work this off-season and will be looking to having a strong 2018.
With the combo of the strong talent returning, and as deep a lineup as they have had in a very long time, the Hornets will look to take aim at topping the single season wins mark they broke last season of 19 wins. They get a huge test early as they face divisional foe Raritan on December 18th, that can serve to light a fire in the room before, and especially after. The schedule features a healthy dose of similar sized schools, but with some smart dates against some of the larger schools like Wall, Manalapan, and TR North, among others spread out. They'll be gunning to make their 3rd consecutive appearance in the State Sectional Tournament and will be aiming to grab a win in there as they continue to build the program.
Individually, the focus will be on improving upon last year's post-season numbers where they had three District Champs, five Region qualifiers, and one State qualifier. Dupont has already shown that he has the goods to not just get there, but to also win matches once he's there. The team would love to nothing more to give him some company down in AC this season, and they are working hard in the room to try and achieve that goal.
